Decoration description
The glaze on cups is thicker than on other vessels of this fabric type and closer in thickness and coverage to the Tudor Green lobed cups and 'Cistercian' type vessels that they are imitating. Those in 'Cistercian' type forms are frequently decorated with applied white clay pellets which are often stamped.
Function
Drinking vessel. A number of cups have external sooting around the base and must have been placed close to an open fire or in the embers to heat the contents.
