Guadalquivir Valley (Baetica), SOUTHERN SPAIN
This type of amphora was most commonly used as a container for olive oil and sometimes preserved olives. The ware is one of the most common and widely distributed of amphorae. It is found in large numbers in the western Meditterranean and to the north-western provinces via the Rhone and the Rhine (Peacock and Williams 1986, 136-140). Sherds of this type are found on sites throughout Britain up to the mid 3rd century (Tyers 1996, 87).
