Fabric 13 - Sandy oxidised ware


Hard fired fabric containing moderate-abundant quartz grains (<1.0mm) which can be rounded to sub-angular in shape.
Orange throughout.

Similar to Severn Valley ware and generally consisting of a combination of cordons, grooves and pattern burnishing. Less frequent occurrence of white slip.

Forms in this ware include Severn Valley ware types and forms with affinities to Gloucester Glevum ware (Rawes 1972; Timby 1990). Jars and flagons in this fabric were found at Droitwich (Rees 1992, fig 31). Further vessels have been identified at Sidbury (Evans 1992, 38) and Deansway (Bryant and Evans 2001, 32) in Worcester.
