Fabric 142 - Hampshire flint tempered ware


Iron rich fabric with inclusions of flint (0.25-1.0mm), greensand-derived quartz (<1.0mm) and grog pellets (<0.5mm) (Alan Vince pers comm).
Reduced grey core and interior surface with oxidised buff-orange exterior surface.

Sherds of this fabric have been found in Worcester and were identified by Alan Vince as part of a pitcher of a type previously found in Winchester. Vessels of this type were produced in Hampshire
Medieval (Late 11th to early 12th century)
The sherds found in Worcester came from deposits dating from the late 11th century and the 12th century.
