Fabric 64.2 - Glazed sandy white ware


Iron-free clay with abundant quartz (<0.5mm) and very occasional red sandstone inclusions (<6mm).
The fabric is usually off-white or buff, occasionally with a reduced grey core.

Vessels often have a pinkish orange wash on the internal and external surfaces and a thin lead glaze speckled with darker green. On jugs a combination of incised lines, roller stamping and applied decoration was used.
Unlocated , STAFFORDSHIRE
The source of this ware is not known. It has been identified in quite large quantities in Droitwich and Worcester. The vessels are very similar to some found in Stafford (Ford 1995) and are thought to be of Staffordshire production.
